Blob Emoji is a mysterious digital culture and internet community centered around blob-style emojis. Originally created as a simple emoji design, blobs developed into a larger online culture involving artists, creators, and internet communities. Blob culture came to Discord because blobs were the only emoji set at the time with true soul. Naturally, when Kiru founded the Blob Emoji Discord server around 2017, it became popular quickly, gaining thousands of users due to its unique global emoji style. Later, other communities were created to expand the idea of alternative blobs, including Blob Hub, which helped inspire many modern blob variations such as mushroom blobs and derpy blobs. Blob Emoji also featured custom blob designs, allowing artists and creative users to participate in the wider emoji movement.

History

The culture surrounding blob emoji has evolved considerably since their initial rise in popularity. During the early years of the community, the user base was relatively broad and represented many different areas of internet culture. As blob emoji became less prominent on mainstream platforms, the community gradually transformed into a smaller and more specialized subculture. Today, the blob community has a noticeable presence of digital artists and creative communities compared to its earlier years.

Google's discontinuation scandal

On August 21, 2017, Google quietly began replacing the Blob Emoji design shortly after the release of Android 8.0 Oreo. The replacement became controversial among users who preferred the original blob designs. The announcement created uproar and keyboard warrior-ship discussion within online communities dedicated to preserving the classic blob style. During this period, the Blob Emoji Server Council declined to release an official statement. However, later discussions was hold (?) to debate regarding blob licensing and preservation.

CatPencilpan

CatPencil first discovered the Blob community in early 2026 after joining the Blob Emoji server. What began as simple curiosity quickly turned into hyperfixation(autism unsurprisingly) as he started meeting people, making friends, and becoming a regular member of the community. Before long, he began contributing his own projects, including a series of community newspapers and other written material documenting events, and happenings within the server. In the months that followed, CatPencil became increasingly involved in As Pride Month approached, he proposed hosting a small game night to celebrate the occasion. What was originally intended to be a single event gradually evolved into a month-long celebration. Which led to him joining the Blob Council, where he helped organize, later becoming a Blob Event Organiser.

Appearance

Blob emojis are commonly described as having soft, rounded bodies resembling melting jelly beans, teardrops, or small puddles. Their designs often feature bright colors, minimal shading, simple expressions, and thick clean outlines. Blob shapes are known for being flexible and expressive, allowing them to stretch, squash, or change appearance depending on emotion.
